日本生物工学会は、アジアに位置する学会としてアジア諸国との連携に力をいれています。
アジア諸国諸学会との学術交流
- 韓国のThe Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB)
韓国のThe Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB)とは、1998年より学術交流協定を交わしています。この交流協定に基づき、日本生物工学会とKSBBとは、各自の年次大会に３～５名の講演者を招待し、その招待講演を通じて学術交流を行ってきました。
日本生物工学会では、通常各年度の6賞受賞者（生物工学賞、技術賞、江田賞、照井賞、斉藤賞、論文賞）の中より3名を選抜してKSBBの年次大会（秋季大会）に派遣し、日本の生物工学分野における先端傾向を紹介するとともに、KSBB年次大会での発表演題よりその研究傾向を調査し、相互の学術交流の一助としています。
又、 KSBB会員には、日本生物工学会英文誌(Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering)を販売する取り決めを交わして、日本生物工学会英文誌を毎月購読していましたが、2009年より、本学会誌の電子化に伴い、韓国内の会員のための電子ジャーナルへのアクセス用アカウントをKSBBにおいてとりまとめて発行しています。
- タイのThai Society for Biotechnology
日本生物工学会英文誌(Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering)を廉価に販売する取り決めは、タイの生物工学会(Thai Society for Biotechnology)(TSB)との間にも交わされていましたが、2009年より、本学会誌の電子化に伴い、電子ジャーナル用アカウントをＴＳＢにおいてとりまとめて発行することになりました。
微生物・生物工学における東南アジア学協会連合（仮称）
Network of the Societies for Microbiology and Biotechnology in Southeast Asia
日本生物工学会は、生物工学分野でのアジアにおける情報交換と相互協力を目的とする微生物・生物工学における東南アジア学協会連合に加盟しており、以下のアジア諸学会と協力して研究交流を推進してきました。

生物工学アジア若手賞
平成16年度（2004年度）より、日本生物工学会は、バイオテクノロジー分野で顕著な研究業績をあげたアジアの若手研究者を顕彰することを目的として、生物工学アジア若手賞を創設し、毎年1名に授与しています。
