Woman-Tenure-Track Positions at Okayama University

Okayama University (Japan) is seeking candidates for three to five woman-tenure-track faculty positions at an assistant professor level. We are particularly interested in ambitious candidates who advance their research in natural sciences. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in the areas of natural sciences.

Position	Assistant professor, who works on a three-year contract.
Affiliation	The WTT staff will be working at one of the four Graduate Schools in natural sciences, including the Gradate Schools of Natural Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Health Sciences.
Qualifications	Applicants must have a doctoral degree. Application from candidates who will receive a doctoral degree before April 1st, 2011 is also acceptable.
Term	The term of the employment as the WTT staff starts on April 1st, 2011 and ends on March 31st, 2014 (three years).

Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize 2010 - Winner Announced

2010 Prize Winner - Dr. Yu-Hong Wei　(Yuan Ze University, Taiwan)

Research Title for the Award:

"Development of a Natural Anti-Tumor Drug by Microorganisms"

Dr. Yu-Hong Wei　(Yuan Ze University, Taiwan) has been selected as the winner of the 2010 Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the field of biotechnology.

Dr. Wei will be honored at the Award Ceremony on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 during the 62nd SBJ Annual Meeting in Miyazaki, Japan. He will deliver the Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize Lecture after the ceremony.

Lecture Time: 11:20 am - 11:45 am, October 27, 2010
Place: World Convention Center Summit 4F, Phoenix Seagaia Resort

Profile:

Dr. Yu-Hong Wei is an associate professor of Biotechnology and Bioengineering in Yuan Ze University. His contributions to the academia and bioindustry are numerous, including the fermentation processes development on biosufactants (such as surfactin), biopolymers (PHA) and biofuels (ethanol), and environmental engineering. He has authored more than 30 papers and book chapters and earned many awards and honors, including the highest research performance award in Yuan Ze University.

The main contribution Dr. Wei made is in the application of molecular biology methods and biochemical engineering techniques to the production of many novel compounds. Some of these products are now developed by local industrial partners. He is also active in academia-industry collaboration and service works in Taiwan’s science community.

Gottfried Wagener Prize 2010

The Gottfried Wagener Prize is granted to young scientists in Japan for path breaking research that is driven by the power of imagination and innovation, and contributes to shaping tomorrow’s society.

The project is supported by the German Federal Minister of Education and Research and the German Academic Exchange Service – DAAD.

Eligibility	Applicants must be affiliated to a research institute or university in Japan and be under 46 years of age.
Fields of Research	The Prize is awarded for application-oriented research work in the areas of Environment & Energy, Healthcare or Safety & Security. The submitted work should propose solutions in the following industries: Automotive & Transportation Chemicals & Materials Electronics & Photonics Medical Equipment & Diagnostics Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing & Machinery Energy Generation and Distribution Technology (incl. New Energy) Urban Infrastructure & Construction The submission may be the result of ongoing research or a work completed within the past two years.
