Young Aisan Biotechnologist Prize: 2009 Winner Announced.
Dr. Suchada Chanprateep (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand ) has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the field of biotechnology. Dr. Chanprateep will be honored at the Award Ceremony on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 during 61st SBJ Annual Meeting in Nagoya, Japan.
Research Title for the Award: Biochemical Engineering Approaches Toward Bioprocess Development for Biodegradable Polyhydroxyalkanoates Production
Profile: Dr. Chanprateep received M.Sc. from Chulalongkorn Univ. in 1996. She was a UNESCO Fellowship (1997-1998), The 25th UNESCO International Post-Graduate University course in Microbiology and Biotechnology, at Osaka Univ., Japan. From 1999-2002, she studied her Ph.D. (Biotechnology Engineering) under the supervision of Prof. Suteaki Shioya and Prof. Hiroshi Shimizu with the support of Monbukagakusho scholarship. She was a Post-doc (2004-2005) at the Cornell/Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR) partnership, Cornell Univ., USA.
She has been the recipient of prestigious academic awards, including Overseas Research Grant Award 2003 from The Asahi Glass Foundation, Excellent Paper Award 2007 from The Society for Biotechnology, Japan and The Hitachi Trophy Award 2008 in Biological Science from Fac. of Science, Chulalongkorn University.
