We invited two speakers from the Thai Society for Biotechnology (TSB) to the 77th SBJ meeting based on the MOU between SBJ and the organization. The invited speakers will give a talk in an oral session related to the topics of their presentations.
Invited Speakers from the TSB
Prakit Sukyai (Kasetsart University)
Title: Upcycling rambutan peel into high-value bioactive compounds and cellulose-based materials Date&Time: September 11, 2025 15:50-16:10 Presentation No.: 2Lp01 Place: Room L (710, Floor 7, Nexus21) Chair: Eiji Sakuradani (Tokushima University)
Prakit Sukyai is a Deputy Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Kasetsart University, Thailand. He was a post-doctoral fellow in Biocomposites from Seoul National University, South Korea. Prior to that, he obtained Dr.nat.techn. (Food Biotechnology) from University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria and Master of Science (Biotechnology), Kasetsart University, Thailand. He is the head of Cellulose for Future Materials and Technologies Special Research Unit. He has gained national recognition in his research as “Outstanding Research Awards” from National Research Council of Thailand, in 2018 and 2022 and Science and Technology Research Grant from Thailand Toray Science Foundation in 2021. His research interest is on the utilization of agro-industrial waste such as extraction of cellulose and nanocellulose from sugarcane bagasse, cassava pulp and energy cane using environmentally friendly process. Extraction of bioactive compound from plant extracts. Synthesis and modification of bacterial cellulose (nanocellulose, nanofibrils, nanocrystals and alignment). Its utilization as structural framework and a carrier of bioactive compound such as turmeric, hydroxyapatite and magnetic nanoparticles as scaffold for tissue repair and regeneration (bone tissue, wound dressing, skin and face masks). He is currently the Vice President of the Thai Society for Biotechnology, a committee member in the Thailand Society of Sugarcane Technologists, a member of the Co-Products Commission of the International Society of Sugarcane Technologists, and an Executive Board Member of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology.
Rujikan Nasanit (Silpakorn University)
Title:Bacteriophages, an alternative for controlling Salmonella in swine production Date&Time:September 11, 2025 17:00-17:20 Presentation No.: 2Mp06 Place: Room M (711, Floor 7, Nexus21) Chair: Mitsuo Umetsu (Tohoku University)
Rujikan Nasanit is an Associate Professor in Biotechnology at Silpakorn University, Thailand. She holds a B.Sc. in Agro-Industrial Technology and an M.S. in Genetic Engineering, before earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry. An award-winning researcher, her expertise is in applied microbiology and bacteriophage technology. She uses bacteriophages to control pathogenic bacteria in livestock, providing vital research on antibiotic alternatives. A prolific author, Dr. Nasanit actively contributes to the scientific community by serving on committees like the Thai Society for Biotechnology (TSB) and the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB).
